Week commencing 6th March

EYFS/KS1 Pop up play experience
We teamed up with Polperro Primary to take part in a pop up play experience. The children had access to a range of activities to develop their oracy skills, communication and language and imagination through role play opportunities.

Trekking at Great Trethew
Some of our children had the opportunity to have a taster session at Great Trethew. The children were in charge of brushing the horses, feeding them and filling up their water and finally were able to ride and lead them. For some of our children, this was their first experience riding their horse and I was incredibly proud to see them have trust in their partner and horse and be brave to try this new experience. Thank-you to the Great Trethew team for a very memorable opportunity!

Fairtrade Fortnight
We had teamed up with the church to host a community tearoom event to support Fairtrade Fortnight. The children have learnt about the importance of Fairtrade through collective worship this week and our school council prepared a presentation for the tearoom event including a Kahoot quiz to test the knowledge of the children and parents.

Dates for the diary
Tuesday 14th March-Our belated St Piran's Day where we will be making pasties. Please remember to wear black and white on this day.

Friday 17th March-Red Nose Day-Children to wear red on this day with a donation to support this amazing cause.

Week commencing 20th February

This week we have started our swimming at Tencreek. The children were brilliant and confident in the water. We look forward to seeing them progress over the next 5 weeks.

On Thursday, the whole school went to Plymouth to visit the synagogue linking to our Judaism RE unit. The children learnt about the routines and items within the synagogue and the different roles. I was extremely proud of how much subject knowledge the children demonstrated of both Christianity and Judaism.

We then visited The Box to explore the museum and was amazed when we saw the Woolly Mammoth.

Next week we have a busy week with Sean Hewitt coming to do two art afternoons to develop our library area, world book day and our active day on Friday with outdoor learning and cricket.

Safer Internet Day 2023

Today is Safer Internet Day and we have looked at ways to keep ourselves safe whilst online. All children have demonstrated a good understanding of the strategies and we have focused on what to do when we are unsure online.

The theme this year is: Want to talk about it?

I have emailed all parents with a 'top tips' guide alongside the image in this blog for tips about encouraging open discussion about digital lives. Please continue to talk with your child about their digital life so they use the power of the Internet in effective and positive ways.

Week commencing 23rd January

Reading café
We welcomed parents in on Monday to spend some time reading together. We had tea, coffee and biscuits whilst they got stuck in to reading a book for pleasure. We would like to encourage children to read at least 3 times a week at home whether this is independently or with an adult or family member.

Collective worship leaders
We want to involve our children in collective worship and have recently appointed some collective worship leaders. These children will be in charge of planning and delivering a collective worship once a week. This week, they looked at the Winnie the Pooh characters explaining each characters personality and how, although they are all different, they respect one another and are friends. The children finished with writing their own prayer based on the collective worship.

WildTribe Day
On Friday, we spent the day building on our outdoor learning skills. The children took part in lighting fires to toast marshmallows, creating spring art using acrylic paints and used their hand eye coordination in archery and nerf gun target shooting. The children demonstrated their Christian values brilliantly and worked effectively in their teams.

Week commencing 9th January

Happy New Year and welcome back!

We have had a brilliant week by going to watch Sleeping Beauty at the Theatre Royal Plymouth. The whole school went to watch the pantomime to support their English learning where they will be looking at traditional tales. The children and adults had a fantastic time including enjoying their interval ice-cream! A huge thank-you to our PTFA who funded half of the trip.

We have also introduced to the children Class Dojo where we will be awarding points to children who demonstrate our Christian values. Our aim for this term is to be instilling those values in our day-to-day lives and we will be going into depth with this further during our Christian Value Day next Wednesday.

We have sent out dates for the diary for this half term so please keep an eye on upcoming events.

Week commencing 28th November

Santa's Trees

Santa's trees in Liskeard have been very kind and donated us a Christmas tree to have at our school. We took the school minibus and with a selection of children, we walked around in search for a perfect 5ft tree. We were making some maths links by estimating sizes of Christmas trees and how long it takes for a Christmas tree to grow (the fact we learnt: it takes 10 years for a Christmas tree to be 5ft). We then brought the tree back and a different group of children decorated.

Sterts
On Thursday, we were fortunate to go to Sterts to watch Joseph and his Technicoloured Dreamcoat. Although it was very chilly, we were well prepared and wrapped up all warm with blankets. The children loved the show and especially enjoyed watching one of our pupils perform in it. Thank-you to the PTFA for funding this trip.

Santa Fun Run

We finished our week getting into even more of the festive spirit by holding a Santa Fun Run. All children participated in the 2km run/walk around the school grounds and local field and wore festive clothing including Santa hats. This event was to raise money for Children's Hospice South-West. Thank-you to all who donated and well done to the children for being active whilst supporting those less fortunate than ourselves.

Week commencing 21st November

Bridge Schools Performing Arts Competition

We have had a wonderfully creative week, with 16 children representing our school in the Bridge Schools Performing Arts competition at Carnglaze Cavern. We participated with 7 of the Trust schools and we came FIRST!!! After weeks of performing arts club with Miss Cunliffe, all their hard work paid off and it was amazing to see them blossom with confidence.

My favourite comment from the judges was"It was the most diverse group out of all 14 schools ranging from age 4 to 11 and you get a real sense of care for one another". We pride ourselves for being a caring school family, so I was really pleased to see that this is evident to people outside of our school.

Well done team Trenode!

Week commencing 14th November

We have had a very busy week with lots of wonderful events.

Remembrance
I was fortunate to attend the war memorial in Morval on Sunday for the remembrance service and it was lovely to see lots of our families pay their respects. The children had created a school cross with collage-made poppies and presented this during the service.

Circus Skills
We had a circus day on Thursday for the whole school where we learnt different circus skills. All the activities allowed the children to challenge themselves and had different levels of difficulty. The children practiced these skills and then applied them in the afternoon creating a performance for eachother to watch.

Children in Need
On Friday, we had our pyjama day for Children in Need and we raised £45 as a school so thank-you for your support.

Week commencing 10th October

Harvest Service
On Tuesday, we had our Harvest festival service at St Wenna's church. The children performed 3 harvest songs, our EYFS/KS1 children performed their acrostic poem and KS2 shared their collaborative prayer and a Bible reading. Thank-you to the church for putting together the service and for all those who attended and donated food to go to Liskeard Foodbank.

Royal Institute Science talk
6 of our pupils were fortunate to represent our school at a science talk at one of our fellow Trust schools, Brunel Primary. The theme was understanding how to be rocket scientists and they saw some exciting experiments. The purpose of the roadshow is to excite children in science and the timing fitted in perfectly to our development of our third classroom where we will be creating a science and music room.

Cross country race
Today we had the first race of the cross-country season, and we had our biggest turnout in years. 10 children participated in the event and showed grit and determination on a tiring course but most importantly, they had fun. A special shout out goes to ones of her girls who ran half the race with one shoe! All children demonstrated our Trust values perfectly. We are very proud of you!

Week commencing 4th October

Reading therapy dogs
We have been fortunate to team up with Hazel and her therapy dogs called Sophie and Woody to visit our school. This week, we had the wonderful Cocker Spaniel Woody over to read with a group of children to develop their reading ability and confidence. Our reading group wanted to keep reading and ended up reading for 30 minutes because they enjoyed completing this with their 'friend' listening. They will be in each week reading with a couple of groups and hopefully all children will get the opportunity to read and meet the dogs overtime. We look forward to meeting Sophie the Labrador next week.

One of the children said "It made me feel relaxed when reading to Woody and I want to keep doing it".

Harvest festival
A reminder for donations in preparation for our harvest festival next week. Please make sure your letter is brought in to allow us to sort out transport to the church.
