Another lovely week in Marazion class - busy and fun!

We watched the EYFS/KS1 performance and can't wait to see the Nursery one next week. We've been busy rehearsing our Christingle service and hope to see all parents and carers at St Stephens Church next Wednesday at 6pm!

On Thursday, we visited the church for the Christmas Tree Festival - always a festive favourite and the children wowed the whole of Fore street by singing Christmas carols beautifully the whole way!

In Science on Friday, we found out about freezing points and carried out another experiment!

Christmas has arrived at Storytellers; the children created their letters to Father Christmas and were lucky to have our wonderful postman collect them! They have been assembling beautiful decorations and enjoying Santa's post office while often dressed in various festive outfits, which always bring a smile to everyone’s faces.

Storytellers had a magical day visiting Father Christmas in his beautiful grotto; the children embraced everything on offer: riding reindeer, making snow angels, decorating gingerbread, and talking to Father Christmas and the elves. We enjoyed a delicious lunch together and even had chocolate cake to take home!

River Exploration

On Wednesday the 11th, as a culmination of our geography work on rivers and their uses, Class 2 walked to the moor to find the start of the river Seaton.

We were joined in this by Mr Abraham and his class from Trenode Academy. The children made friends and the children at Darite really enjoyed showing the visitors around the area. We looked at the mine workings and how humans have affected the physical geography of the area with spoil heaps, dams to create the donkey pool and the pits in the South Caradon mine.

The children had a great time and were superb ambassadors for the school and themselves. It is great to have chances to work closely with other schools in the trust and we have already put plans in action to visit Trenode and Blisland later in the year.

Christmas is well under way here in nursery. The children have been super busy creating lots of lovely artwork and some lovely things to take home with them. They have been busy cutting, sticking and wrapping "presents" on the tuft tray ready to put under our Christmas tree and have been doing a super job of writing and forming recognisable letters to create name snowman.

At story time, we have enjoyed the books "Hurry Santa!" and "Through the North Pole snow".
In phonics we have tried to recreate sounds that we have heard with instruments and have been naming them. The children have been learning more about rhyming words and have been thinking of words that rhyme with pen, cat and dog.

In maths we have been exploring and building with shapes and the children have been completing inset puzzles.

Today (Friday) we have all been wearing our Christmas jumpers. Thank you for your kind donations for Save the Children.
This afternoon we had our nursery nativity. Thank you to everyone that came. The children all did such a great job and we were so proud of them.
We look forward to next week where we will enjoy Christmas dinner on Wednesday and our nursery party on Friday 12-1.15pm.

Just a reminder that Friday is our last day before the holidays and we finish at 1.30pm.

See you next week
The Nursery Team

Christmas is creeping up on us as we enter December! This week, we thoroughly enjoyed Hunt the Issy night! Well done to the musicians who performed on stage with Mr Jane, and the choir too!

We also said goodbye to the lovely ‘S’, so took our photo with her as a memento.

Later in the week, we carried out a really fun science experiment, finding out the melting points of different foods!

Great job on the gingerbread houses, by the way!

After a wild and stormy weekend, it has been a calm start to the week! A big thanks to you all for supporting our Rainbow Multi day on Friday. We had some generous and innovative coloured items and we are busy putting them together to make some gift hampers  (take a look at the photograph of the red hamper above.)  We will be raffling these on the final day of school with proceeds going towards some sensory equipment which we are going to install in a special space at school. This can be used if pupils need a quiet space to be calm if they are feeling angry/anxious and the classroom environment is just too noisy/bright/busy for them. Personally, I am currently favouring the purple hamper as it has lots of purple themed chocolate!
Year 6 spent a morning at Tavistock college in the art department where they worked with some of the students to create a wonderful hanging bird. They used a wide range of techniques to create these birds including sewing and printing. They also received some very positive feedback about their exceptional behaviour- well done Year 6- you are great ambassadors for the school.
Thank you to those of you who braved the winds on Sunday to have breakfast with Santa. There was a lovely festive atmosphere and the children (and the adults too!) enjoyed meeting Santa in his special grotto which has magically transformed back into the Infant school's stage- those elves must have been busy yesterday! Over £280 was raised by this event. This will also be used to furnish sensory spaces in both schools.
We are looking forward to the postponed Carol singing at the Rifle Volunteer on Saturday 14th December at 4.00pm.

What a great start to the week!

Having talked about how I once had a class Christmas postbox but it had been ruined check out this incredible creation by one of my wonderful Spitzbubs :-) What an incredible creation for us all. Thank you to his family.

I was also very proud of all our children who took part in our Church Christmas performance today. Thank you to all our parents who were able to attend and those who helped by walking down, and back, from the church with us. It was very much appreciated!

We look forward to welcoming our Grandparents on Wednesday afternoon to do some baking with them and share our learning. Please don't forget class party is on Friday 20th December and it might be a good idea for the children to not bring lunch that day as we will have our class party food instead. We finish school early that day at 1:30pm.

We have been eagerly practising our Christmas play this week! We can't wait to share this with you! The children have been working so hard, learning their lines and rehearsing songs.

In Maths, Year 2 have started a new unit on Shape, looking at recognising 2-D and 3-D shapes, as well as counting the sides of 2-D shapes. Year 3 have continued work on Multiplication and Division, by multiplying and dividing by 3.

In History, we have been looking at what the ancient Egyptians use to believe and researched different Gods and Goddesses. In Computing, we continued exploring algorithms by using Google, Quick Draw and using Lego block models to inspire writing of our own algorithms.

We have our Christmas Play performances of The Fleece Force on Wednesday 11th December at 2pm and 6pm. Please can you ensure you bring in your costume/props by Monday 9th December at the latest. Any questions, please do let Mrs Wilkie know.

Congratulations to Finn and Emma for being chosen as Landaviddy's People of the Week! And a big well done to all those who achieved their 99 club badges!

We hope you enjoy a relaxing weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday!

Mrs Wilkie, Mrs Phillips, Miss Bowden and Miss Colton

Christmas has arrived in pre-school!

The children were all delighted to arrive last week to see pre-school decorated for Christmas. With the addition of Santa’s Post Office and Grotto for our role play areas.

We have posted many letters to Santa already! The children have also enjoyed being elves and issuing tickets to visit Santa's Grotto.

The next couple of weeks will see us enjoy many festive stories and also a look at our traditional Nativity story.

We have been busy practicing our Nativity songs, and it is lovely to see that the children have been practicing at home too.  We could definitely be heard in our whole school singing assembly this week.

All the children finished their Xmas tree decorations and some of them have been over to school to hang them on the hall tree.  Those that haven’t will get the opportunity to hang theirs next week.

We hope that everyone has had a safe and lovely weekend.

The pre-School Team.

What a fun-filled, action-packed week we have had in Chaipel. Many of our Y6s have been doing their Level 2 Bike Ability and have braved some challenging weather to learn about road safety/awareness when riding. They all did extremely well and enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

Our Christmas play is in full swing and we are now script free! Thursday is our big performance day, one at 2pm and then a final perfomance at 6pm.

ENGLISH
We are writing up our explanation text, following on from editing and improving our draft version. We have chosen to produce a double-page spread and it is looking really good so far. I look forward, very much, to reading them.

MATHS
Fractions, fractions and more fractions. We have been finding equivalents, simplifying and plotting and interpretting number lines this week.

WIDER CURRICULUM
Practising our play has taken priority, this week, but we have been learing about how to keep healthy (in Science) as part of our investigation into the Circulatory System.

CHRISTMAS FAYRE
Our Y5s and Y6s worked really hard to produce and run the Christmas games at the fayre. We raised a lot of well-needed money for the school and had a lot of fun along the way. Thank you, parents and carers, for allowing them to help out and supporting the school.

That's all from me, so have a lovely weekend, albeit a windy one, and see you all on Monday!

Miss Randle, Mrs Clary, Mrs Hodge and Miss Colton.

The school is looking and feeling very Christmassy at the moment thanks to the generous donation of a beautiful Christmas tree by React Scaffolding Ltd. The tree, which is in the school hall, has been decorated beautifully by our Breakfast Club pupils.

Performances We are looking forward to seeing you at the Christmas performances next week; the children have been very busy rehearsing. If your child is in the Landaviddy Class play or the Talland and Chaipel Class play, they will be required to come back for the evening performance at 5:30pm in order to be ready for 6pm. All performance times and dates are in the Events Diary on this website.

Clubs Reminder that for the final 2 weeks of term (9th Dec – 20th Dec) there will be no clubs except for afterschool wraparound club and Breakfast Club which will continue as usual. Clubs will restart in January and we will send a letter out after the Christmas break about which ones will be running.

Book Fair – New Books for School Thanks to your generous support of our recent book fair, we now have £190 to spend on books for the school.

Poppy Appeal Year 6 raised £117.65 for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal this year; thank you for your donations.

Local Events Attached to this blog is information for events that are happening in the local area over the next few weeks.

Diary Dates
Reminder that our Christmas Jumper day is next Friday, one day after National Christmas Jumper Day so that the children can all enjoy wearing their jumpers after the Christmas performances are over. We ask for a £1.00 donation for Save the Children. Children should wear their Christmas jumper instead of their usual school jumper. The last day of term is on Friday 20th December and school will finish at 1:30pm. Monday 6th January is an INSET day, therefore the first day of the Spring term for the children is Tuesday, 7th January.

Have a great weekend.

Christmas Craft Afternoon

On Wednesday 4th December the children in Year 2 had a wonderful time making Christmas Baubles with their families.

Artist Sue Bennett came into work with us and helped the children to create their own baubles designs.

It was lovely to be able to have so many parents join us for Christmas Crafts.
