Hello Everyone,
It’s looking very Christmassy in Penhallow this week.
We have been enjoying our Christmas role play area, where we have been learning about shape, size, and length, by wrapping presents, and we have been practicing our writing, by making Christmas cards.
We have been learning about the nativity story by practicing our Christmas play. Every day, we have found out about the role of a different character in the Christmas story, by gradually building our Christmas nativity set. We tried to imagine how Mary and the shepherds might have felt, when they saw an angel.
In art this week, we have been printing with different objects, and have been recreating artwork in the style of Andy Warhol. Next week, we will be making improvements and adding different colours to our prints.
In English this week, we have been exploring non-fiction texts about castles and have been using adjectives to describe different kinds of castles.
During our maths lessons, we have been learning about place value to 20, and have enjoyed using the story; ‘One is a snail, ten is a crab’ in order to investigate making 20 in different ways.
In science, we have continued our learning about different animals including humans. We used different fact files to find out which animals are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
We are looking forward to performing our Christmas nativity next Tuesday, and look forward to seeing you at one of our performances.
Have a lovely weekend!
From the Penhallow team.

This month has seen a lot of scientific and geographical study in Year 5! We have been learning a lot about materials in Sciences, including whether materials are heat and electrical conductors or insulators. We have investigated which materials are soluble and which are not. In Geography, we have located many of the Uk's key cities and compared areas based on their physical and human geography as well as what the land is used for in two contrasting areas.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummSeaton ended a wonderful learning-filled week with a coding workshop run by Tech Cornwall.
They started off by finding out about different companies in Cornwall that use coding and technology on a large scale. They also learned about various job roles and how important AI will be in the future.
They were then shown how to use coding to control a microbit. They enjoyed making different shapes, patterns and messages.
To extend their learning further, they then experimented with led lights and had fun seeing all the different colours they could make. They had a great discussion afterwards about all the different types of jobs and inventions that coding is vital for.
Perhaps we have some future tech wizards in our midst!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
The children have been engaging in lots of different activities that are helping to build a Christmassy atmosphere at Nursery; we especially enjoyed getting ready for 'Hunt the Issy' when lots of visitors had a look around.
We even had a visit from 'Brunelf' - Brunel's very own Christmas Elf - who brought us a lovely Christmas book to share. Thank you!
The beautiful decorations displayed around Nursery will be going home at the end of term so the children can use them to decorate their own homes with their Christmas crafts.
We are looking forward to welcoming parents and carers next week to or Christmas craft morning on Tuesday, and Christmas craft afternoon on Wednesday, where everyone can have fun snipping, and gluing together!

An acting packed week (da dum...cha) in Talland this week as the children have been honing in on their performance skills. The Christmas Play is all starting to come together now!
Maths:
Year 4 have been multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100.
Year 5 have been multiplying a 4-digit number by a 2-digit number.
English:
We have been using persuasive techniques to help exaggerate our writing. Ask your child what a 'superlative adjective' is... can they remember?
Design and Technology:
Children have designed and built their chassis for their Greek toy (a chariot). I'm looking forward to seeing how these turn out. They could be a great Christmas gift for someone!
Science:
We've dived into the ear and explored the different parts and functions of it.
Well done to Heidi for being celebrated for her fantastic efforts this week and a huge thank you to everyone who has been helping their child to learn their lines. It's starting to sound great now!
Short and sweet this week... so that's all from us. We hope you have an amazing weekend.
Signing off from Mr. Langley, Mr. Bishop and Miss. Colton.
P.S Year 5 will continue to learn their statutory words.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
We have been like Christmas elves this week, with show rehearsals, calendar making, card making, more show song rehearsals, Christmas math's (after a very successful dress rehearsal!)...
During English we finished our class story version of Hansel and Gretel, called Woody and Taylor.
We have also been learning in Science about sinking and floating. We tested various materials after we made our predictions to see if we were right.

Class 3 loved their visit to The Box on Thursday. We took part in a workshop on World War II where they looked at artefacts from that time and took part in air raid drills. In the afternoon, we explored the other exhibits and braved the rain to see Charles Church, which was bombed in 1941 during the Plymouth Blitz and has now been dedicated as a memorial for the 1,200 civilian deaths during air raids.

This week has definitely been all about Christmas preparations! We have been spending lots of time singing and rehearsing for our EYFS/KS1 performance of Whoops-a-daisy Angel. The terrific Tregantle children have been absolutely amazing - singing superbly and dancing delightfully! Today we showed our dress rehearsal to the other children in the school and we are very much looking forward to showing the parents and carers next week. Along with our busy rehearsing, we have been getting creative with Christmas crafts in preparation for the world famous Brunel 'Hunt the Izzy' night. We made sparkling Christmas cards, colourful window decorations and mosaic calendars. As usual our 'Hunt the Izzy' night was so much fun! Families from the whole community joined together to search the school for the hidden Izzy's and enjoy the fun of the Christmas fair!

If anyone sees Twinkle anywhere please let her know I am looking for her! This photo was found in my office. Can you believe that she had the nerve to kick back and relax - with her feet on my desk?! I will be firm but fair, I promise; but something has to be done about this. All information or help appreciated! Well done all for a fabulous Elf day in support of Alzheimer's UK!

It really has been a fantastic week at Darite this week. We started even before Monday with the Liskeard Lights Up festival. Lots of children (past and present) and their families proudly showed off the lanterns that they had made in the club after school. The photos looked amazing and it was wonderful to see the flag flying for our school. Thank-you to all the staff and families who made attendance at the event possible.
We continued with our Reindeer Run in aid of St Luke's hospice on Wednesday. 39 children running around the playground in festive antlers made everyone smile and we managed to raise an enormous amount of £292.15 so far for the hospice. I know they will be grateful and the children should be proud of their efforts in the run. A huge thank-you to all the parents, carers, neighbours, relatives and acquaintances who sponsored the children so generously. The money will make a huge difference to the hospice.
As you can see, another great week at Darite. Please stay safe and dry this weekend with the Amber warning and we’ll see everyone next week for the penultimate week of the autumn term. Just a reminder that school finishes at 1.30 on Friday 20th along with the other schools in the trust. Staff will be on site for the afternoon undergoing training but please can you let us know if you will be unable to collect your child at 1.30.
Have a safe and good weekend.

This week we have gone all Christmassy! The tree is up and the sparkles are out!
The children had a great time decorating our nursey tree, making it all very pretty to go in our role play area. In the tuft tray, we have been decorating Christmas trees with lots of different materials which will go on our Christmas display.
In cooking on Thursday this week, the children helped to make mince pies that they could take home and share. They scooped, rolled and identified the shape they were using.
Our book corner this week is Santa themed and we are enjoying the story "Father Christmas needs a wee" and "Alien's love Panta Claus"
In phonics this week, we have been using musical instruments to create different sounds such as stomping giant footsteps. We have been identifying words that start with a "P" or a "B" sound and listening to sounds in our indoor and outdoor environment.
In maths, we are exploring shapes and how we can contruct and make arrangements with them. The children have been naming numbers that they see and ordering numbers on the math table.
Just a couple of reminders that next Friday is Christmas Jumper Day and also our nursery nativity at 2.45pm.
Have a good weekend
The nursery team.

This week, our classroom has transformed into a world of gingerbread! The class have enjoyed making cards and gingerbread men tree decorations. Our new English topic of Hansel and Gretel is being immersed in well, given our classroom theme and our adored book corner has transformed too which is giving us all much joy!
Thank you to those who supported our Hunt the Issy evening and to those who entered our Gingerbread House decorating competition...winner to be revealed next week!

We returned from the Autumn half term and kicked off a busy November with some Halloween celebrations. The children worked collaboratively to follow a spooky recipe in the home corner, using their counting and number recognition skills. We also enjoyed looking at Halloween books and shared our own experiences from home.
This busy month also saw Bonfire Night. We made marks in a glittery tuff tray, copying patterns and creating some bright firework artwork using cardboard rolls.
We celebrated Remembrance Day learning about brave soldiers and using vegetables to print some poppy pictures. In our tuff tray we used various tools to scoop and weigh poppy coloured rice.
Children In Need gave the children an opportunity to engage in lots of Pudsey themed activities including lemon scented tuff trays and playdough.
We learnt about Road Safety, putting an emphasis on how the colours of the traffic lights give us instructions and help keep us safe. We also spoke about 2D shapes and their properties using cars to move around different shaped tracks.
In the library we enjoyed lots of stories and introduced Fred the frog who helps us during story time and with Read Write Inc games. Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry.

It has been a busy month in the ARC. During the week after half term we celebrated Bonfire Night - we had a go at using sparklers - it was great fun to try writing our names with them. The boys followed our safety rules brilliantly.
This month we have welcomed another new member into our ARC: Sabrina has joined us and
we are all enjoying getting to know her.
This month we have focused our literacy work on Julia Donaldson. We have been learning the stories, investigating rhymes, looking at the art work on Axel Scheffler. The children have chosen their favourite characters and turned them into prints. We are now working to create a 3D stand up model.
All of our children are enjoying the new ride on toys in the hall. We have been going up in groups to use them and we are getting really fast!
